Mithril and Dark Matter Guide

Listing Status: 54 Stones in total

What is Mithril/Dark Matter?

Mithril is the most powerful and resistant material available in the world of Shining Force. The Mithril stones collected during the game can be transformed in extremely powerful weapons and accessories. They can be found in two sizes in Shining Force III: Small and Large. The Small ones are used to create accessories (such as rings), and Large are used to forge weapons.

Dark Matter is a rare material just like Mithril. However, the weapons forged using Dark Matter are cursed. A character equipped with a cursed weapon will perform poweful attacks, but may suffer negative effects, such as being paralized, receiving HP damage, etc.

Smithy's Locations:

The Smithy is the man who forges Mithril and Dark Matter stones into useful equipment. He can be found in the city of Flagard in the very beggining of Chapter 5 (when you reach the city in the end of Chapter 4, his house is locked). The is also a Smithy in the city of Malorie, in Chapter 6. All you have to do is take some stones (Mithril/Dark Matter) with you and ask him to make a weapon for a determined character.

The Smithy will make a new weapon depending on the class of the weapon you're equipped. Example: If Synbios is equipped with a Sword, and you ask the Smithy to make a new weapon to him, he will forge a Sword. So, if you want him to make a Rapier, equip Synbios with a Rapier then ask the Smithy. Got it? :)

Be sure to stock up on thousands of gold coins, since he will charge you a lot of coins for each weapon he makes!

Weapons and Prices:

For detailed info regarding prices and weapons on the Smithy's Shop, be sure to read Chen Guojun's Shining Force III WeaponCraft Guide. It's a nice FAQ covering not only Scenario 1, but also Scenarios 2 and 3. Questions and suggestions about this FAQ should be e-mailed directly to Chen, the author of the FAQ.

Special thanks to Chen Guojun for allowing me to use this FAQ.

Yeah, Mithril and Dark Matter equipment are powerful, the problem is to find the precious stones! Here is a list of locations where you can find them.
