| - Inspect all the crates, boxes,
barrels, treasure chests, plants and shelves to
find extra items. Anything you think suspicious
should be observed too, such as fireplaces or
tables. Some times, even walls and the ground
hide special items, be sure to look at
everything. - ALWAYS look at the Deals
section in the shops. Shining Force II fanatics,
like me, tend to forget this section, since in
Shining Force II we rarely could find something
new... However, in Shining Force III there are
loads of cool rare items and you can't miss them!
Remember: if you have no money to buy a certain
item from Deals section, it will be available on
a store in the next towns.
-
The churches are useful places: you can revive
party members exausted during battle (gold
required), promote characters on level 10 or
superior, cure abnormal status (gold required)
and save the game. Remember to save the game
always you can.
-
Try to talk to everyone and enter all the houses.
This is the best way to get information and stay
tuned on what's happening on the game. When
someone ask you a question, try to tell the
truth.

IMPORTANT: How to bug the sellers! The
item/weapon/acessory sellers generally have something
cool they're trying to hide from you. However, you can
force them to sell the cool stuff by bugging them. The
trick is the following: select the "Buy"
option, then choose an item to buy, and confirm with
"A" or "C". When you have to give the
item to any of your characters, don't do it: press
"B" button quickly and repeatedly to cancel the
negotiation! If you're lucky, he/she will offer you a
special item that was not shown in the store. Sometimes
this trick won't work at first, so talk again, and again,
until you get the special goodie. All the items you can
get this way are listed on my game guide, so don't worry
about missing something.
- If you
bug a seller and the item offered is too expensive for
you to pay, there's no need to worry. The item will be
listed in the Deals section from that moment on, so it
can be acquired later, even on another town.
| - Try to keep all of your
characters alive. When a character dies, he/she
will lose Friendship levels and you'll spend a
lot of gold coins to revive him/her. Have most
people to carry an Angel Wing, and try
to save on their turn, so you can go back to
church if someone dies every time you load the
game (that annoys me, explanation in the next
topic). - It is possible to save the game
during battles, but you must be very careful
using this feature: you can put yourself in
danger. Let me explain: imagine you saved on Masqurin's turn,
and she has no MP, items or cure spells. Then the
next turn is a monster, that kills Synbios! So,
every time you load, you'll see him die, and be
forced to accept his defeat. You should not save
also when exploring ruins: if you go back to
town, and restart the battle, the ruins will be
collapsed. The save feature during battles is
helpful, but it must be used wisely: save on
turns where characters carry Angel
Wings or can cast the Return spell.
-
Break all the barrels during battle to find items
and unblock doors and passages. After the battle,
there is no way to remove them, so break
everything before rushing to kill the boss or to
the exit of battlefield.
-
A battle will be finished when: you kill the
enemies' boss, you kill all the enemies or run to
the exit of battlefield using Synbios (your
leader). Remember that rushing to kill the boss
is not always a wise idea. You should defeat all
the other monsters on the field if you want to
get more experience, items and gold coins.
-
Choose a certain weapon kind and stay with it
until the end, just upgrading with same classes
of weapon. Special technices and more power are
added after long time use of the weapons.

| - Avoid common attack spells (like
Tornado, Blaze, Freeze, Spark...), by keeping
your characters a bit distant from others. The
summon spells (like Phoenix, Wendigo, Tiamat...)
however, will distribute heavy damage among the
targets, so it is a nice idea to keep everyone
together to avoid massive HP loss (or instant
death) to a unique person. - The
Resist spell (learned by Irene and Murasame) will
increase your characters' magic resistance and
can be quite handy against powerful wizards and
summoners. In the other hand, the Support spell
(learned by Kahn) increases physical
defense.
-
Some Friendship icons will pop up from
characters' heads during battles. The sword icon
indicates that the character will have increased
attack (higher damage, stronger magic, higher
critical chance, etc), the shield icon indicates
higher defense (reduce physical and magic damage,
higher counter chance, etc), and the hearth icon
shows a Soulmate relation (note that Soulmate's
effect range is one extra square of distance).
There is also a special icon, the exclamation, it
shows when a character/enemy has a weakness
against the attacker. Try to take advantage on
these icons and be a master!
-
Berserk and Charm status are extremely dangerous!
They'll make your characters to turn against
their friends, and cause a great loss of members
if a powerful attack is used. Be sure to cast
Antidote LV2 using Grace and/or
carry a lot of Fairy Powders to avoid
major problems.
-
For the most part of the game, Eldar will be
the only character able to fly. So, use her
always or you'll miss some items only she is able
to reach.

 |
-
You can promote the characters to superior classes once
they are at level 10 at least. They'll be able to equip
better weapons and most status receive massive bonus
points (each character can be promoted only once in this
Scenario, and there are no more special promotions like
in Shining Force II).
- If the
monsters are smashing your party, you should kill some of
them, then cast Return. Go back to battle and fight a bit
more, cast Return. Repeat the process until your party
gain levels and is strong enough to defeat them.
- All the
characters have their strong and weak points. There is no
ideal party, it all depends on how you build them up,
which items are equipped or used on them, and most
important... if you like him/her enough to put in the
party. Anyway, try to balance the classes on your party:
not too many magic users, and not too many fighters. Make
the perfect balance between fighters (Knights, Warriors,
Archers, etc), mixed application characters (Monks,
Ninjas, etc) and magic users (Priests, Magicians, etc).
| - None of the characters should be
abandoned in the headquarters. When someone has a
higher level than the others, take this character
out of the party, replacing him/her by a lower
level character that was in the HQ. This way, you
keep everyone's levels balanced. - The
easiest characters to level up are the healers (Grace, Irene and Kahn). If the
Heal spell cures at least 1 HP, they'll always
receive 10 experience points, and when they save
someone's life by recovering a lot of HP, they
can get up to 20 experience points.
-
The maximum number of experience points a
character can receive per turn is 50. Generally,
you receive 49 experience points if you kill a
monster stronger than you. This number will
gradually be lower, according to the character
level compared to the monster's. If you are WAY
stronger than the monster, only 1 experience
point is received.
-
Level ups always give some status bonuses, but
they're very randomic. Take advantage of this by
saving before someone gets a level, then load the
game until the numbers are the ones you want.
Example: Synbios, before promotion, rarely
gets extra MPs, so it's a nice idea to work on
him... C'mon, before the promotion at level 10,
he can get up to 9 extra MPs (1 MP per level up)
if you use this simple trick!

Some items can boost characters' status permanently like:
Level (Brave Apple), HP (Health Bread), MP (Brain Food), Attack (Power Wine), Defense (Armor Milk), Agility (Quick Chicken), Luck (Happy Cookie) and Walking
Range (Nimble Onion). Notes: Happy Cookie and Nimble Onion will always give
+2 bonus. Brave Apple increases level by only one. All
the others give +2, +3 or +4 points (randomic, so save
and try again until you get a +4).
Do you know anything I didn't list
here? Feel free to send me your tactics, I
will add them here and credit to you. Thanks.
